About the Exploratorium
The Exploratorium is a pioneering museum of science, art, and human perception, offering over 1,000 interactive exhibits that encourage hands-on exploration. Founded by physicist Frank Oppenheimer, the museum emphasizes experiential learning, allowing visitors to engage directly with scientific phenomena. Relocated to Pier 15 in 2013, the Exploratorium continues to inspire curiosity and innovation through its dynamic programs and exhibits.

When is admission free at Exploratorium?
the Exploratorium in San Francisco offers several opportunities for free or reduced admission throughout the year. Notably, on Mother’s Day—Sunday, May 11, 2025—the museum hosts a “Pay What You Wish” Community Day from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, allowing visitors to contribute an admission fee of their choosing.
Additionally, the Exploratorium participates in the Museums for All program, offering $3 admission tickets to individuals and families presenting an EBT, CalFresh, WIC, Medi-Cal card, or Lifeline Pass, along with a matching ID. This discount applies to up to four Daytime or After Dark tickets per visit and is available for purchase on-site only.
California public school K–12 teachers can also benefit from free general admission by applying through the Exploratorium’s official website.
